Montgomery County Commissioners Dodge, Foley and Lieberman, along with County Auditor Karl Keith have extended Amnesty Week for Dog License sales through Sunday Aug. 31, 2008.

Amnesty dog licenses will be sold at the Animal Resource Center, SICSA, Humane Society of Greater Dayton and from the Auditor’s Office in the County Administration Building until Sunday Aug. 31. Amnesty Tags will be available at the Montgomery County Fair at the Animal Resource Center booth from Aug. 27 through Aug. 31.

With 70,000 tags sold so far in 2008, over 3,000 tags have yet to be renewed. Animal Care & Control Officers will begin canvassing Sept. 1, 2008 to insure that tags are renewed. Dog owners can avoid penalty fees and a possible $150 citation by taking advantage of this first ever extended Amnesty Week.

The Amnesty program encourages dog owners to license their dogs, avoiding the late penalty and pay only the $16.00 license fee, not the penalty of an additional $16.00. Proceeds from the licenses help the Animal Resource Center to care for stray and lost animals, spay and neuter every animal that leaves the center as an adopted pet and provide animal control services to our region.

The Animal Resource Center has a wide variety of pets available for adoption. Dogs and cats of all sizes, shapes and colors are available for adoption and come with a health check, spay or neuter, microchip (dog) and standard vaccinations.

A Montgomery County license can be traced 24 hours a day, 365 a year from a link with the Montgomery County Auditor. A license distinguishes a lost dog from a stray dog. Strangers are more apt to extend themselves to licensed pet. The Montgomery County Dog License provides legal proof of ownership, and licensed dogs are eligible for the Vacation Registration Program.
