Wayfinding Signage Project Benefits Greene Co. Bike Trails
Wednesday, November 26, 2008
XENIA, Ohio -- Greene County Parks maintenance personnel recently installed new signs within the City of Xenia to assist trail users with finding their way to the next trail and provide distances to destinations throughout the Miami Valley. This is a regional cooperative project with Clark, Miami and Montgomery counties. The federal grant, administered through the Ohio Department of Transportation, was written by the Miami Conservancy District with local contributions by Greene County Parks and other agencies. The grant will yield about $23,000 in signs for Greene County. The total budget for the project is $184,500 with a total of 9 agencies from each of the four counties receiving signs.A total of 31 signs have been secured for Greene County. The initial round of 15 signs have been installed, including a total of five at Xenia Station to assist riders accessing the different trails. The signs feature the number of the trail the rider is currently on, the same color that matches the regional trail map, the name of the trail the rider is on, as well as an emergency number and managing agency. Some of the signs include maps providing visual directions to other locations. It is the hope that this regional approach to trail signage will be adopted throughout the state to create a unified look, similar in nature to interstate signs across the country. This will continue to make the Miami Valley and the State of Ohio one of the most bicycle friendly areas in the country. For further information, please contact Greene County Parks at 937-562-7440 or visit the website at www.co.greene.oh.us/parks.
