DAYTON, Ohio -- Nationally, the American Red Cross is facing tough financial times. It's borrowing money to pay the costs of helping people hit by Hurricane Gustav earlier this week. Now, the Red Cross has a new problem. As the East coast prepares for Tropical Storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike, the Red Cross says its in desperate need of trained volunteers ready to head there at a moment's notice. Here in the Dayton area, Red Cross officials say they can't find enough qualified people to send. Eighteen volunteers are already in other states either helping Gustav victims or standing by to help after these two other big storms bearing down on the East Coast. They have called everyone on their list and still need more people.Tom Fodor, of the American Red Cross in Dayton said, "Right now the Red Cross is spending 40-70 million for Gustav. Tropical Storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike may become major events. We have to get volunteers on the ground and in place to help citizens on the East Coast."Foder points out that these have to be volunteers who have already been trained by the Red Cross. The Red Cross is also in need of financial donations.
