Mountain Hotels Prepare For Coastal Guests

Asheville, N.C., Hotels Get Calls About Storm Shelter

Friday, September 5, 2008

With Tropical Storm Hanna aiming for North Carolina, some hotels in the Asheville area are hearing from coastal residents looking for a haven.

The Grove Park Inn Spa & Resort has been getting dozens of calls checking on availability and booking rooms for couples and families fleeing the path of the storm.

The hotel is continuing a special "Safe Haven" rate offered last week to Gulf Coast residents who evacuated in the face of Hurricane Gustav. This weekend, Grove Park offers rooms at $189 per night, rather than the typical rate of $335.

Jenny Herman of The Residences at Biltmore, a luxury condominium-style hotel, said her property saw plenty of business during Gustav and has already taken some reservations for the weekend.
